We love September. The cooler mornings, foraging for nature’s bounty and the smell of bonfires in the air... *sigh*.
And in tourism, it always feels a bit like another new year has started. Once the madness of the school holidays has gone and the season starts to slow, tourism business owners often start to look to the future again, instead of firefighting the present.
Not only is October half-term on the horizon, but Christmas is also looming and will be with us before we know it, so a quiet September is often the best time to start planning marketing and PR strategies for the rest of the year.
Things you might want to be thinking about include:
Updating your emotive photography to reflect the seasons and what you can offer
Writing a social media strategy to ensure you’re showing your audience just how lovely your business is in the winter as well as the summer
Contacting journalists to ask if they’re running any articles on off-season tourism destinations or whether they’d like a press trip
Updating your website with off-peak prices and blogs about what visitors can expect in the autumn/winter season
There are lots of opportunities to continue to share your story, despite the downturn in the weather. In fact, as the winter blues set in, people start to think about next year and plan their holidays (Boxing Day is a hot spot for holiday bookings), so make sure that if you have plans for next year, you’re already talking about them.
If you need some help putting together a strategy for the rest of the year, get in touch and we'll be able to help. In case you hadn't noticed, autumn is our favourite season here at Rural Roots and we'd be delighted to make your September really super!
What's next for us?
Here at Rural Roots we’re also planning for the future. We have a new Rural PR Academy starting in October and is enrolling now! So please get in touch if you’d like more information on how you can plan and structure your own PR strategy for the 2019 season.
We’re running a workshop on Christmas PR for members of the Rutland and Leicestershire WiRE Group next week and we are exhibiting at our first ever trade show, The Glamping Show, on September 20 - 23.
If you're going to be there, please drop by to say hi and help us eat the chocolates (because we REALLY don't need them)...
